On the International Cleanup Day, October 3 there was held a cleanup campaign of Al Khan coast, organised by Sharjah Aquarium and Sharjah Maritime Museum with cooperation of Project Aware and Ocean Conservancy. The objective of the project was to call attention to our behaviour to the nature and to minimize ocean pollution.
As Manal Ataya, Director General, Sharjah Maritime Museum said: "By launching this campaign, we are not only supporting the International Cleanup day, but also inspiring Sharjah residents and visitors to respect the maritime environment and nature and to be part of this protection."
During the Cleanup day more than 1000 volunteers, including members of government establishments and NGOs participated in collecting rubbish as well as in cleaning the seabed. The campaign included also promotion action to protect aquatic habitats, drawing workshops for children and also rewarding the most unusual piece of rubbish.
Next time you can join the team of volunteers!
